Common Problems with Garage Door Cables

The cable attaches to the bottom of the garage door on drums located right above the floor on both sides. The cable helps hold up the weight of the door and the springs help lift and lower the door. If a cable breaks or snaps, it may become inoperable. It should not be used. If you continue to use a door when the cable is broken, it can cause more damage to the garage door system.

Sometimes, the cable doesn’t break. It may just come off the drum. If this happens, we still suggest not using the door until the cables are reattached properly by a trained technician. If a spring breaks, the tension on the cable is lost and it can cause the cable to come off the drum.
